nichola and dru | intimate minden elopement on canning lake

Nichola, a talented stone mason. and Dru, a tech guru by day and fitness guru by night, contacted me early in 2023 about their plans for an intimate wedding at Dru’s family cottage. Their inquiry was one of those ones as a wedding photographer that makes you squeal with giddiness and excitement.

Every bit of their plans had me excited: only 11 guests, a Minden cottage wedding , 2 dogs would be there, locally made food by Feast and Fusion, locally sourced florals by August Tree Floral Farm and Nichola, and so much more.

Their day comes and we couldn’t have had better weather. The whole day was relaxed, stress free, and intimate, just what Nichola and Dru wanted. From the moment I got there, the happiness and love was all around and radiating. So much so, that I felt so incredibly respected, loved and included from the moment I got there to the intimate dinner on the deck where they made a place for me right beside Dru. Also, if you’re looking for the best locally made food for your day, you MUST contact Mitch at F & F, I still dream about that dinner :)>

Nichola and Dru, THANK YOU. It truly was a day I will always remember. I feel so darn lucky that you found me and I hope you love reliving your day through this little post

jody + leith | cozy forest wedding at Tiffin Conservation Area

The craziest thing about this season (and the last year really), is that at the drop of a hat, things can change drastically. From gathering limits to venue’s closing to vaccine passports, having a wedding during the pandemic is no easy feat. Well, Jody and Leith are no different had their fair share of heartbreaking changes and the craziest change of all, I wasn’t even their original photographer. The biggest challenge through 2020-2021 weddings is with every change, your vendors need to be available and when everyone was changing, it became chaotic. Well, it worked in my favour as J + L’s original photographer wasnt available for their new date at Tiffin Conservation Center, But I was!!! It was meant to be. I connected so hard with these two and we had so much fun working together and I think the images are proof that I was meant to be there.

Jody and Leith, thank you!!! What a beautiful, chill (and a bit sweaty lol) day. Enjoy reliving your day (again) and I hope our paths cross again xoxo

lauren + kent | an ontario glamping weekend wedding at the Whispering Springs

Lauren and Kent are two of the kindest humans I have had the pleasure of working with. As we all know by now, 2020 wasn’t the best year for most but when it comes to trying to plan your wedding, it had the potential to ruin your wedding. Well, L + K didn’t let it.

Instead of postponing their wedding, Lauren and Kent decided to embrace the change and plan two weddings, both appealing to different people in their lives and their want for different things on their wedding day. When the gathering limits kept changing, Lauren and Kent decided to a more traditional church ceremony and lunch at Eagles Nest Golf Club with their parents, siblings and godparents on September 12th. Then, they planned a forest ceremony and weekend away with their best friends, their bridal party, at Whispering Springs on September 26th.

Their wedding was truly the best of both worlds and I am so happy to of been a part of both days. On the 26th, Lauren and Kent just kept saying how happy they were that they did both. Their happiness radiates through ALL the photos and I am so so happy they embraced the change and made their special days into their own.

Here is a peek at their forest + glamping wedding <3

jessy + barry | a lakehouse cottage wedding

I am so excited to finally be able to share a 2020 wedding (a few more to come too!). As most know and most have experienced, 2020 hasn’t been the best year. With a global pandemic happening, many people are going through the unthinkable and having a wedding is the last thing on some couples minds but like my boy Harry Potter said “Maybe that’s the best reason to have it. Because of everything that’s going on”. Couldn’t agree more Harry.

Cue Jessy and Barry, who were forced to change their plans multiple times. From a large wedding at an Ottawa wedding venue, to a medium sized wedding at her parents Crow Lake cottage to a small, intimate and romantic wedding at the Tichborn area cottage of only 20 people.

The day welcomed them with very unpredictable weather but one of the best things about an intimate guest list is you can change on the fly and go with the flow. When a storm rolled in over the lake, we all decided to just wait it out. No rush for the ceremony as that gave everyone extra time to get ready, feed the babies (Jessy and Barry have two beautiful twin girls as you will see) and take some extra downtime and make sure everything was ready. When it came time for the ceremony, there was a little rainbow and the clouds parted with the dreamiest light. From there, the day continued to be dreamy and I need to mention, these two have the kindest families and friends who treated me like family from the moment I got there. When I got in my car at the end of the day, my face hurt from smiling so much and I had puffy eyes from crying because their day was that perfect and you could feel the love every single second everywhere.

Jessy and Barry, THANK YOU! I am so so happy I got to be the person to document your day. It was one of my favorite days I have ever been a part of and you two are truly meant to be together (and you make beautiful babies taboot! :) )

Love you guys and thanks for checking this wedding out everyone!

robyn + scott | rustic chic farm wedding in Hartington

As a wedding photographer, you are always hoping to find people who share your same outlook on life, who trust you and your crazy ideas, who make you laugh and just people you want to hang out with on the regular. Well I 10000000% found that in Robyn + Scott. I also have been so lucky to of documented quite a few of their friends weddings too (like Rachel + Matt at Fanshawe Pioneer Village or Rebecca and Pat at Berekley Church or Rosie + Dave at the Story’s Building or Christina and Zach in Grand Bend and Shane + Andrea’s camp wedding at Bark Lake Leadership Centre in Haliburton), all of whom are my kind of people. Nothing means more to me then a friend or client recommending me to someone dear to them, so thank you thank you THANK YOU #teammegan!

Robyn, who is quite the crafty and creative bad-ass business woman(be sure to check out her incredible handwoven skills here), nailed it when it came to the planning and details of their wedding. Every little detail was so beautiful from the Shisha table with string lights and pillows to the black candles and vintage holders to the hand written name tags on plant paper (you plant your name tag and watch it grow!!). Scott had a part in this too I might add haha he built some of the wooden details including the Shisha table for their guests!

In addition to all the beautiful details, Robyns moms property and farm couldn’t of been a more perfect location surrounded by fall colours, long grass and beautiful gardens.

Robyn and Scott, I love you guys and cant wait to see you again. I am truly honoured to of been a part of your day. It will forever be a favorite

lindsay + edwin | intimate St Mary's backyard wedding

christina + zach | an intimate grand bend family cottage wedding

Now I will start this post off by saying that Christina and Zach's wedding in Grand Bend was absolute wedding goals and will forever be one of my favorites. They did everything for them and for those that mattered to them most.

So Christina and I go back now I believe a decade and met through her brother Jason and we all played softball together (she was good, I am not haha). After years of playing together and hanging out a lot, I got to meet Zach. I don't think I could of ever imagined up a better person and best friend for Christina, they really are two peas in a pod.

Christina rocked not one but TWO unique and beautiful dresses. The little white top over the first one was made by Christina herself. It was so fun to do a second look with the next dress, on the beach at sunset.

The venue was their cottage growing up and then a few years ago when Christina's parents were ready to retire, what better plan then to renovate the cottage and live there forever. Their home was so perfect and as you will see, the backyard space was the BEST! To have your ceremony outside, on the water, surrounded by 50 of your nearest and dearest while boats are driving by and honking... perfection.

The night was filled with some of the best first dances, speeches and even live music (by one of my favs Kevin Foster) that I have ever seen. It was one of those weddings I did not want to leave and I am so excited and happy to share it with you all!

C + Z, THANK YOU!! xo

leslie + mack: planning a wedding through hard times

Back in January Leslie reached out to me about capturing their backyard wedding and I was super excited. I had never met Mack or Leslie, but we came from the same town and siblings knew each other etc. so I knew this would not only be a fun wedding, but that they were my kind of people.

L + M started the planning process before reaching out to me and had been searching for the perfect venue. Everything they looked at, wasn't what they wanted, then Mack's Dad came to the rescue.

"We wanted to get married on the Sweet property because we love it there! Mack grew up there and his dad built that house so it was pretty special to get married there. We were looking around at different venues for a while (always saying the Sweet house was the dream), and we weren't finding anything we liked when one day Mack's dad offered to have the wedding there, which was kind of perfect!"

Planning a backyard wedding is not for everyone and can really test your organizational and planning skills, but L + M knocked it out of the park!

"Our advice for planning a backyard wedding is to be prepared for details! A lot of planning goes into a backyard wedding and once we got some of the big things out of the way (tent, caterer, bathrooms) we thought it would be smooth sailing from there, but a lot of last minute things we didn't think of came up in the weeks before the wedding. We had a lot of great help from our friends and family though, which is something we recommend, call in those favours! Haha"

L + M and I had exchanged a few emails leading up to the wedding day in regards to the day of schedule and shot list, but not much beyond that. When I arrived on the day of, Leslie informed me of something they had been going through, something I never expected to hear.

Three months before the wedding, Mack was diagnosed with Leukemia. L + M had been tossed a curve ball and their lives instantly changed.

"Mack had to be hospitalized for 30 days in a hospital in London, which is about three hours away from where we live, since there were no beds available closer to home. At first we didn't know if the wedding would still happen, and in a way it seemed like the last thing on our minds. All of our focus just shifted to getting Mack through this. The doctors told us that Mack might not be feeling the greatest, but that the wedding would be something for us to look forward to once he got out of the hospital. Which was true, it was nice having something to look forward to and visualize together. Since we were pretty far from home I did quite a bit of wedding planning from my hotel room in London, I even sent out my invites from there"

You never know what life has in store for you and to those of you who are planning a wedding, and may being going through something similar, Leslie has some advice for you.

"To anybody going through something similar...stay positive. It's unfortunate that it takes something like this to put things in perspective, but it really does. Your wedding is your day to have fun and celebrate and not worry! It's really hard not to, but don't sweat the small stuff! The small things that don't turn out or that were overlooked don't matter at the end of the day. It's not exactly ideal to plan a wedding while going through something difficult in life, but it can and does work out. And, as for Mack, he's been busy kicking cancers ass and is doing great"

I am so incredibly honoured to of been able to work with Leslie and Mack and to of captured such true emotion and candid love. We laughed together, cried together and these two will forever inspire me to push through anything life throws my way.
